First I think your wedding quilt looks the best out of all the quilts and I am not being bias because you are my sister. And second I think the judges just matched the color of the ribbons to the quits. If they had a green ribbon you would have gotten it. Silly judges. But yay you still got a ribbon!

I also think your quilt looks the best, and I'm not biased because I am also a Sarah who quilts! I've read your site for awhile now and think that you produce beautiful quilts, and I am in awe of your hand piecing and quilting skills. I hope this doesn't discourage you from entering another fair or trying again.

Who said that life (or competitions) had to be fair. I can't believe the green didn't get at least honorable mention since the colors are so unique.

Oh, I'm not grumpy about it! Heck, it's not that I don't think it's fair (it's at the fair, haha, ha, ha, ha!). I think I just had more confidence in it than I should have. I had been comparing it to some other people's quilts that had previously won at this fair and I thought mine was of the same quality as theirs. But, I also know that those quilts wouldn't have stood a chance in big quilting competition.

Claudia, you're right. If only I had entered a blue quilt! :)

Too bad you didn't enter this year's wedding quilt...it would have been the right color scheme. It even has purple, which I believe is the color for "Best in Show" ribbons. :-)

Hey, congrats on the ribbon. It's great that you were willing to put your quilts out there. That takes guts. Good job!

Speaking as a former judge and a long time fair participant, there are lots of times that judging comes down to really nit-picky things. Cleanliness, neatness, eveness of stitches, etc. When you have 2 or 3 projects that are almost equal, sometimes there isn't anything else to judge on. On the other hand, there are also times judges make major mistakes. I once had a judge mark me down because "the red & blue stripes don't match." Unfortunately, the project was entirely pink! By the way, I really like your quilt!

Our county has 3 quilt guilds with +/- 150 members each. The number of quilts entered at the fair is pathetic by comparison. Most people don't condsider the judging "fair" enough to bother to enter (pun intended). Based on what I saw at the fair last week, I'd have to agree. Hang in there and keep up the good work. Your fans appreciate it. =)

oh geez! judged competitions suck ass! one never has a clue what the basis for win/lose is. but i sure would be judging a hi-five for your quilts above anyone elses!!!

Your quilt rules -- your sense of color and design is far superior to anything else in that photo. This is why I don't enter fairs. The judges are philistines! I am toying with the idea of the quiltalong, but using handdyes. I need to think about it some more. . .

Your fair sounds like ours. The judging seems really random. It's hard not to take it personally, because you've spent so much time on the projects. Last year my entries were judged really randomly. A partially self-designed cross-stitch that I practically bled for got a 3rd place (and I couldn't find any 1st or 2nds, I suspect I might have been the only entry), and a plain-plain-plain sock I knitted got a 1st place. Who knows what the judges are thinking? I think that both of your quilts are beautiful.
